Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish
Strawberry Cream Cheese Danish
Yield: 8 danishes
Ingredients
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry (thawed)
- Half a brick (4oz) of cream cheese (softened)
- 2 1/2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- About 1 cup sliced strawberries
- 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp water
- Flour to dust countertop
- Optional icing sugar for dusting pastries
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°.
- Create the cream cheese spread by beating the cream cheese on medium-high until smooth and creamy. Add in 2 tbsp sugar and vanilla.
- Wash and slice strawberries. Place in a small bowl and stir in cornstarch and the remaining 1/2 tbsp of sugar.
- Unfold thawed puff pastry sheet onto lightly floured surface. It should look like a large thin rectangle. If not, roll out dough until 1/4 inch thick. Cut into equal portions, either rectangles or squares. With a fork, poke holes in the centre area of each portion to help the dough not puff up in the centre
- Spread a thin layer of the cream cheese mixture on the dough, leaving about 1/4 inch boarder. Place strawberries on top.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. This will be your egg wash. Brush the edges of the dough with the egg wash.
- Bake on a parchment lined baking sheet for 14-16 minutes or until golden brown.
- Sprinkle icing sugar over top when danishes are done for a bakery style look.
